7 Must Reads For Your Next Beach Vacation

Published by lulieroberts on

There are two types of people on vacation: the kind that sit at the foot of some body of water (pool/beach/lake) and read…and everyone else. I’m obsessed with all things water and reading, so naturally I fall into the first category. I usually bring a couple of books on my Kindle (ones that I might want to read) and then one or two physical books (that I definitely want to read).

Below are my seven top recommendations for your next trip (even if you’re only going to the backyard)!

1) Read this while you’re lounging poolside:

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

This is a captivating novel about the glamorous and scandalous life of a Hollywood icon, who reveals her secrets to a young journalist in a final interview. You’ll be hooked by the twists and turns of Evelyn’s story, and the emotional impact of her choices.

2) Read this when you have a long, boring drive to the beach:

The Writing Retreat by Julia Bartz

This is a fun and witty novel about a group of aspiring authors who spend a week in a secluded cabin. They hope to find inspiration and guidance from a famous writer, but instead they discover secrets, lies and murder.

Side note- Am I the only one who likes snowy books at the beach? There’s something really wonderful about reading about the snow but not actually being in it.

3) Read this when the news is getting you down:

The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune

This is a heartwarming fantasy about a lonely bureaucrat who is sent to inspect an orphanage for magical children, and finds himself falling in love with the place and its quirky inhabitants. This book will make you laugh, cry, and smile with its charming characters and message of acceptance.

4) Read this when your toes are in the sand:

Beach Read by Emily Henry

This is a fun and flirty rom-com about two rival authors who end up as neighbors in a beach town, and make a bet to swap genres for their next books. As they challenge each other to write outside their comfort zones, they also discover new things about themselves and each other.

5) Read this during your next flight:

Savannah Sisters by Lulie Roberts*

This book is a fast read with lots of twists and turns. It’s a fun rom com about a woman who goes back to her hometown to clean out her grandparent’s antebellum mansion only to uncover secrets about her past that threaten to devastate her future.

6) Read this if you are an early riser who reads while the sun comes up:

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

This is a thought-provoking novel about a woman who gets to explore the different paths her life could have taken, thanks to a mysterious library that appears at midnight. As she tries on different versions of herself, she learns what really matters to her and what makes her happy.

7) When the beach isn’t hot enough for you:

Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score*

This is the romantic story of an unlikely couple: Naomi and Knox. Naomi is a runaway bride with plenty of secrets and pep while Knox is the epitome of a grump. Add an evil twin sister and plenty of romance and this book has all the feels.

Side note- I love how this is in a series but you don’t have to read the whole series for things to make sense. It can be a one and done or the beginning of a great thing!
